Another season brings another Transcending Sound playlist!
Amongst a lot of my peers, the fall (and most of the winter) is known as cuffing season: the time of year that some people enter "relationships" so that they are not alone during the cold months and/or even the holidays. The "relationship" usually ends before the end of winter or at the beginning of the spring, sometimes even before Valentine's Day. There are a whole lot of problems with that mindset, and some of the reasons why it's a problem show up in this fall's playlist.
vocals, love + soul too is the continuation of last year's fall playlist, vocals, love + soul. They both feature the work of (mostly) black creatives in R&B, past and present, that deliver vocals and potent lyrics on love and its complexities. This year's fall playlist enters love quickly and then goes on a roller coaster ride of emotions towards the middle, which is really how most romantic relationships are once the honeymoon phase is over. But when it seems to be over, the couple decides to give it another try, slowly but surely.
